What are liposomes?
Liposomes are microscopic fat bubbles made from phospholipids – the same substances that make up human cell walls. Their unique structure allows them to encase nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, and protect them from degradation during digestion, as well as improve absorption through the cell walls. This helps the nutrients to be better absorbed by the body and delivered precisely where they are needed.
Because of this similarity with our cells, liposomes don’t dissolve in stomach acids, are not affected by digestive enzymes and are able to bind to our cells, delivering the nutrients to target cells intact, improving their absorption and efficiency in the body.
Advantages of liposomal vitamins and minerals:
- Efficient absorption: Liposomes enhance the absorption of nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, making them more accessible and effective for the body.
- Protection from digestive acids and enzymes: The liposome shell protects nutrients from the acidic and enzymatic breakdown in the digestive system, allowing them to reach their target with minimal degradation.
- Targeted delivery: Liposomes deliver nutrients precisely to the target cells, which shortens the time needed to absorb nutrients into our blood circulation.
- Improved efficiency: By delivering nutrients to the target cells quickly, liposomes can allow us to reach the goal concentration of certain nutrients more efficiently.
- Reduced gastrointestinal irritation: Liposomes help reduce stomach irritation and discomfort caused by certain nutrients.
Food supplement. A food supplement does not replace a varied diet. A versatile and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important.

Frequently asked questions
What is vitamin C, and why is it essential for humans?
Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in many foods and can also be taken as a supplement. Since the human body is unable to produce vitamin C on its own, it’s essential to obtain it through our diet to maintain normal function of the immune system, normal collagen synthesis. Vitamin C also works as a strong anti-oxidant, protecting our cells from oxidative stress.
How is liposomal vitamin C different from regular vitamin C?
Liposomal vitamin C is specifically made to maximize absorption, ensuring that you get the most out of our supplements. This liposomal technology encapsulates vitamin C in liposomes, which are fatty molecules that the body easily absorbs, by mimicking the structure of human cell membranes. For this reason liposomal vitamin C is more efficiently absorbed than traditional forms of the vitamin.
Is liposomal vitamin C better than regular vitamin C?
Liposomal vitamin C contains the same core ingredient as regular vitamin C but is more effective due to its high absorption rate. This means you don’t need to take large doses to get the benefits, as its quick delivery ensures you feel the effects faster and more directly than with other forms. Additionally, liposomal supplements are more gentle on the stomach.
When is the best time to take liposomal vitamin C?
There is no scientific evidence indicating a specific time of day that is best for taking vitamin C, including liposomal forms. The most important factor is taking it consistently. Since the human body neither produces nor stores water-soluble vitamins like vitamin C, it needs to be obtained from food or supplements. Liposomal vitamin C can be taken at any time of day, with or without food.
What is the recommended dosage of vitamin C?
According to the NIH, women over 19 should take up to 75 mg of liposomal vitamin C daily, while men over 19 are recommended to take up to 90 mg daily. Smokers are advised to take an additional 35 mg per day, and pregnant women should add 10 mg, totaling 85 mg per day. But, we have to keep in mind that during the flu season, it is recommended to take a larger dose of vitamin C of up to 1000 mg for most adults, as it could prevent frequency of colds or severity of symptoms.
